The auto key fob is a small portable device that allows us to control various parts of the car from a distance. These may be opening the car doors, the boot, controlling the alarm and even starting the engine from a distance on some models. Car fobs come in various designs; some are standalone controllers and other work more like a key ring.

The key fobs are an integral component of a modern keyless vehicle entry system that was introduced to the car industry 30 years ago. A very convenient technological advance, that makes life easier for motorists and leads to reduction in key-blade wear. The car fob has a chip inside that communicates with the vehicle.

Most key fobs also have a valet key inside that allows you to drive the vehicle short distances, but doesn’t allow you to have full access to the vehicle (no access to the boot for example). Knowing whether you have a valet key or not is important in case of your fob malfunctions. This will give you some time to find out whether you need to repair or replace your fob.
